Who, as a young football player, does not dream of one day playing on the big stage, of becoming a world star? Bayern defender Alphonso Davies has made this dream come true. As a Liberian refugee (raised in a Ghanaian refugee camp) he grew into a professional football player in Canada. In 2019, he moved from Vancouver to Germany to major club Bayern Munich and is now a regular there.
Davies confirms in a live video on the streaming platform Twitch that becoming a professional entrepreneur is still his lifelong dream. However, he also lists many negative aspects that characterize his life as a footballer. Davies: “I have nothing to do after training. What am I doing? What do I do with my time? I’m going home and I’m alone.”
Nati goalie Yann Sommer’s Bayern teammate is surprisingly open in the stream with his fans. “Since I have no family in Germany and my girlfriend doesn’t live with me, I have practically no one. I probably have five friends at the most.” With a smile he adds, “If you will, I’m a popular loser.”
Time and time again, Davies confides in his followers on “Twitch” personal things. With good reason: he wants to highlight a different side of the professional business, as he explained in a Nike commercial a few months ago. “There are a lot of kids who want to be pros but don’t know anything about their idols and the habits of football. I want to show my fans the human side.”
In the current season, the 35-time international from Canada played 32 league games for Bayern. After the international break (March 20-28), Davies and his teammates have the top match against Dortmund on April 1. (par)
