Sadness and dismay in the freestyle scene. Former world champion Pavel Krotov died at the age of 30. He succumbed to a cerebral hemorrhage.
Alexander Pongilsky – head coach of the Russian national team – reports that the freestyler suffered an acute cerebral hemorrhage on the night of March 25. “While he was sleeping, a cerebral artery burst.” Any help for Krotov came too late.
The Russian Freestyle Association is appalled in a press release: “Many people remember Pavel as a kind, sympathetic and courageous person. We express our sincere condolences to the family, relatives and colleagues.” The FIS also reports: “We extend our deepest condolences to Pawel’s family, friends and relatives.”
Krotow won bronze in aerial singles at the 2021 World Championships in Idre (Sweden) behind compatriot Maxim Burow and Christopher Lillis (USA). In the team competition, it was enough to win gold next to Lyubov Nikitina and Maxim Burow. He finished fourth at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. In the World Cup, Krotow achieved six podiums and two wins in 46 races. (par)
