Mauro Schmid completed the overall victory at the Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali, a stage race of the Europe Tour in Italy.
The 23-year-old from Zurich finished eighth in the final individual time trial over 18.6km, which was won by his French team-mate Rémi Cavagna. Schmid thus defends his lead in the general classification, which he took over on Wednesday with a second place in the second stage. His lead over second-placed Briton James Shaw is 16 seconds after five stages.
For Schmid it is the second Tour victory after winning the Tour of Belgium last year. He celebrated the greatest success of his career in 2021 by winning the 11th stage of the Giro d’Italia. (SDA/dti)
