FC Bayern and trainer Julian Nagelsmann officially go their separate ways. The club has now confirmed this in a statement. Assistant coaches Dino Toppmöller, Benjamin Glück and Xaver Zembrod also have to leave. “FC Bayern has released coach Julian Nagelsmann. CEO Oliver Kahn and sports director Hasan Salihamidzic came to this decision in consultation with president Herbert Hainer. Nagelsmann’s successor will be Thomas Tuchel.”
Tuchel’s contract runs until the summer of 2025, he will lead a training session for the first time on Monday.
Oliver Kahn explains: “After the World Cup we played less and less successful and attractive, the strong fluctuations in performance questioned our goals this season, but also beyond. That is why we have now reacted.”
And Salihamidzic adds: “It was the most difficult decision in my time as a sporting manager at FC Bayern. I have had an open, friendly relationship with Julian from day one.” Nevertheless, “after a thorough analysis of our team’s sporting development, especially since January and with the experience of the second half of last season, we have now decided to release Julian”.
Nagelsmann took over at Bayern in the summer of 2021, became champion in his first season and won the national Supercup in 2021 and 2022. (mom)
