Kimmy Repond shines in the freestyle to music

In Japan, the 16-year-old fully confirmed the surprise bronze medal win at the European Championships in Espoo in Finland at the end of January. On music fragments from the Exogenesis Symphony, Kimmy Repond presented herself with nerves of steel and expressiveness in her most important freestyle to music to date. She mastered all the difficulties almost perfectly, including the two combinations of three in the second part of the four-minute program. She had opened with the highest difficulty triple Lutz/triple toe loop.

The jury assessed the performance of the Swiss with 131.34 points. Kimmy Repond gained almost three points more than in Espoo and also achieved a personal best with a total of 194.09 points. In the short program she was just below her potential. In Japan, the new Swiss figure skating queen was the third best European with the eighth best rating of all competitors in the free skate.

In the footsteps of Sarah Meier

Sarah Meier was the last Swiss woman to make the top ten four times between 2006 and 2009, including sixth place twice.

Local Kaori Sakamoto successfully defended the title in front of 30,000 spectators. As a clear leader after the short program, she could afford to make a mistake in the flip in the freestyle. The 22-year-old won with 224.61 points. Next to her on the podium were Lee Haein (220.94) from South Korea and Loena Hendrickx (210.42) from Belgium (SDA)
