“I got EPO instead of Covid vaccination”

Zane Robertson is the New Zealand record holder in the marathon and half marathon and has competed in the last two Summer Olympics. But the 33-year-old will not be seen in action for a long time.

Because Robertson was suspended for eight years by the New Zealand Sports Court for testing positive for the banned substance erythropoietin (EPO) at the 2022 Great Manchester Run. EPO instead of Covid vaccination

After the positive test, the Olympian wanted to talk his way out of it in a strange way. He claimed he wanted to get vaccinated against Covid-19 at a practice in his adopted country of Kenya, but was given EPO instead. A medically totally wrong statement. To defend himself, he even produced documents to support his claim.

A shot that failed: because the accused practice responded and was able to prove that Robertson was not in the practice on the specified day and used an incorrect patient number in his documents. For example, Robertson was now not only accused of doping abuse, but also of document forgery.
