Roy Hodgson announces retirement at age 75 and returns to the coaching bench. Crystal Palace have signed the Englishman until the end of the current season. This after the previous trainer Patrick Vieira (46) was fired last week.
Already on the sidelines of the “Eagles” from 2017 to 2021, Hodgson must now save them from relegation in his second term: the Londoners are 12th in the Premier League, but have been unable to win in all competitions for 13 games and is only three points ahead of the relegation zone.
Roy Hodgson coached the Swiss national team from 1992 to 1995, leading them to their first World Cup final in 28 years in 1994. At the tournament in the US, Hodgon’s national team advanced through the group stage, but then lost 3-0 to Spain in the round of 16.
In Swiss club football, Hodgson was on the sidelines of Xamax (1990-92) and GC (1999-2000). He also coached the England national team from 2012 to 2016. (bjl)
