Galicia exceeds 800 recognized athletes for the first time

Author: .

Among the 75 new appointments as Galician athletes at a high level, David Arcay from fishing stands out; Manuel Antonio Campos canoe; Helena Garcia from taekwondo; Manuel Míguez from motorcycling; Eva Feijoo and Gabriel Rodríguez from Rescue; Jaime de la Gándara sailing or David Amor, 16, in sports dancing

The Official Gazette of Galicia (DOG) published a resolution recognizing top athletes, high performance and basic sports performance of Galicia and various sports groups, as well as rejected applications and the reason. In total, out of 83 new applications submitted, 75 were recognized, of which 54 were high level, 4 high performance and 14 basic sports performance, 2 high level technique and high level judge.

Among these appointments, new high-level Galician athletes stand out, such as David Arcay from fishing; Manuel Antonio Campos canoe; Helena García, from taekwondo; Manuel Míguez from motorcycling; Eva Feijoo and Gabriel Rodríguez from Rescue and First Aid; or Jaime de la Gándara, sailing. It is also worth highlighting the great importance that sports dance is gaining in Galicia, after the creation of the Galician Federation, as demonstrated by the appointment of b-boy David Amor, 16, in the breaking category.

With this latest resolution, the Galician community counts 818 recognized athletes (309 women and 509 men), divided into 688 elite (256 women and 432 men), 39 elite (14 women and 25 men), 3 judges (3 women), 5 judges (4 women and one man) and 7 lifelong (3 women and 4 men). Among the 818 recognized athletes, a total of 23 athletes with functional diversity (9 women and 14 men) should be highlighted, representing the largest number in the historical series. In addition, with this resolution, Galicia achieves its record among recognized athletes in all categories, and also among high-level Galician athletes.

It should be noted that the new regulation on high level, high performance and basic sports performance published by the DOG on September 29, 2020 recognizes new figures such as high sports performance — sports practice that still cannot be qualified as high level, but whose protection indicates that he will be in a position to be such— and basic sports performance — a stage of development and improvement before achieving high sports performance or a high level—. The same is happening with the categories of technicians-coaches and judges-judges, new groups that are included in the high figure, through the Galician Commission for the Evaluation of High Sports Level.
