Not in the mood for provocations with DiDomenico

Beat Forster and Chris DiDomenico (right) had one argument or the other.

In the pre-playoffs it was again and again Marc Marchon van Kloten who provoked Chris DiDomenico to become the main provocateur. And then you wondered which Bieler de Schillerfalter will deal with the weak nerves in the quarterfinals. Yannick Rathgeb again, with whom he made his way to the dressing room in February in the last qualifying match? Or rather the robust all-purpose weapon Mike Künzle?

After game one and the Bieler 3-0, there is no trend. A person consistently continuing Marchon’s work cannot be identified. DiDomenico had a few tussles with the two Biel defenders Noah Schneeberger and Beat Forster, but far from a possible escalation. “That’s not good for us. We want to play,” says Biel sports director Martin Steinegger.

“We have to keep emotions low”

Both defender Robin Grossmann and striker Gaëtan Haas confirm that DiDomenico was not an issue in the preparation for the series. It is a different starting position than Kloten had: the Bielers bring a higher quality of play to the ice than the promoted team, they can really only lose if they go to the sidelines against SCB.

“We focus on our strengths and try to keep emotions low. The emotions are SCB’s game. They have some players that need that to reach their top level. If we don’t participate, we can take that out of the game with them,” Grossmann explains.

Steinegger’s advice to DiDomenico

Of course it’s important to stand up to the man, play hard and not allow anything if possible, “but when play is interrupted we try to focus on ourselves and not on any skirmishes,” says Grossmann. And Haas adds, “We know how DiDomenico plays, but we don’t want to play this game.”

Sports director Steinegger then advises DiDomenico not to overdo it with his interventions against Forster, “because if things get too colorful for him, it will not end well for DiDomenico”. Forster is now 40 years old and his wild days are behind him. But he still comes from a struggling family, and lessons learned.
