Artificial intelligence reaches runners: this is the “Running Loop”

running loop is a mobile application of the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation that has the data of more than 400,000 official runners and that allows you to compare the results with those of other athletes, find out the calendar of future events and that has a virtual assistant with artificial intelligence from IBM.

With the aim of improving the experience of runners, the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA) has launched this mobile application, available for free on Android and iOS, which claims to the first Spanish application in the field of federal sports that allows users to access all the races they have participated in with their official brandsyour percentile compared to other participants and your average pace, among other features.

The initiative is part of the development plan of the RFEA’s strategic goals “Aspiration 2030”, which aims to improve the experience of runners and apply sports innovation and technology as the fundamental pillars of promoting and expanding the practice of athletics related to a healthy lifestyle.

“Running Loop is the federation’s commitment to technology as a tool to support athletes. The idea is that all runners in Spain can download it on their mobile phone and quickly access all the details of each term, distance, route, time fifteen days in advance, altitude or bumps, with an analytical comparison of the results according to the type of race, which will allow them to better plan and preparation. The information it offers cannot be found in any other application, but would have to be searched for in several places,” says Raúl Chapado, president of RFEA.

running loop It was developed by technology consultancy Habber Tec and Barrabés.biz with artificial intelligence (AI), Big Data and The Weather Company technologies from IBM, and is 100% based on IBM Cloud and open source services.

The mobile app transition was developed with Ionic and React, enabling the same experience on any device, whether it’s a smartphone, tablet or computer. The result is an application ready to grow and feed with new features, compatible with all devices and browsers.

Running Loop works on multiple devices and multiple languagesit has data from more than 400,000 official runners in Spain, more than 770,000 preloaded records and a virtual assistant with IBM artificial intelligence.
