Daniil Medvedev (ATP 6) is struggling in the 3rd round of the Indian Wells Masters 1000 tournament. The Russian has to go the full distance in the 6: 2, 3: 6, 6: 1 against Ilya Ivashka (ATP 85). And vent his anger, especially after the lost 2nd set. He struggles not only with his game, but also with the field.

When he tells the referee he’s going to the toilet, Medvedev says, “I’ll pee as slowly as this place is. Give me 25 minutes.” The referee doesn’t understand that. “You’re a professional, you have to accept that,” he replies. But Medvedev doesn’t think about it. “I won’t accept that. This isn’t hard court. You’re lying to me,” he rants before heading out.

Second round of 16 at Indian Wells

Back on the field, he can turn the game around in his favor. With the 16th win in a row – most recently he won the tournaments in Rotterdam (HO), Doha and Dubai – he will be in the eighth finals at Indian Wells for the second time after 2021. So far he has never progressed.

The anger is still present at the press conference. The ball flies fast, but the hard court is slower than other tournaments, Medvedev explains. And in the end it’s still reasonable. “I’ll have to struggle with it.”

Next up is against Alexander Zverev (ATP 14). He has already played twelve times against the German. The balance is balanced at 6:6. (bir)
