The court cancels Gavi’s registration for the first team of Barcelona

The player could be re-registered with the affiliate until the end of the season and could also be released

FC Barcelona player Gavi could re-register to the daughter company Barcelona after the court overturned precautionary measures which, against LaLiga, allowed the club to register a home-grown midfielder for the first team, on the last day of the winter market. “LaLiga has received a notification from the Commercial Court of Barcelona number 10, in which it is informed of the cancellation of the precautionary measures agreed on January 31, 2023. The case of Gavibecause Barcelona did not respect the deadlines set for the submission of the main claim,” LaLiga explained to the media.

With this court decision, due to the deficiencies in the form of the lawsuit filed by FC Barcelona in order to be able to register the player from the branch in the first team and thereby make his renewal effective until 2026. the player may be re-registered with the affiliate for the remainder of the season.

On a sporting level, the Andalusian could normally continue to play in LaLiga Santander and the Copa del Rey. Of course, the number 6, reserved for first-team players, could disappear from his shirt and have to return 30.

The problem is that Gavi’s previous contract expired at the end of this season and, if the court rejects Gavi’s registration for the first team and LaLiga does not accept the new contract —signed in September 2022—, the player could be free.

On January 31, 2023, Barcelona managed to register Gavi for the first team — and with a new contract — thanks to the fact that the same court that is now lifting the precautionary measures — apparently, one day late — gave the green light to your registration

So, for FC Barcelona, the first resolution recognized the “dominant position” of LaLiga and considered that there is a “principle of legitimacy” in its request and “that the non-registration of the players before the final deadline would imply the freedom of this and, therefore, a very serious and irreparable damage” to the entity.

LaLiga announced before the punishment that it would appeal the decision through the courts and confirmed that the Andalusian midfielder will be registered with FC Barcelona’s first team as a precaution.

Now, with LaLiga’s appeal upheld by Barcelona’s Commercial Court number 10, the registration would be canceled and Gavi would be re-registered, not playing, and the affiliate is awaiting the next court action by FC Barcelona, which he believes has no formal flaws in the request for the registration of the midfielder.
