“We were too tired for the medal celebration”

The World Cup started badly for 29-year-old Ladina Jenny. She retires early in the first race, big disappointment. On the same day, her partner Dario Caviezel (27) won silver in the parallel giant slalom. But after four seasons together, the snowboarding couple has this emotional chaos under control.

“We are often selfish on match days,” explains Jenny. “After being knocked out in the first round, I just wanted to be left alone. But when the men’s season got really hot, I was able to choose Dario again and draw strength from his success.”

When two days after Caviezel Ladina Jenny took silver in the parallel slalom at the World Championships, everything was ready for a big party. “I’ve always said that a medal is unstoppable,” Caviezel says with a laugh. “But the truth is we were too tired!” And friend Jenny adds: “After the season there must be a big party!”

It will probably be your job to organize the party. Because in their relationship the roles are clearly divided. «Dario is spontaneous and creative. I make sure that his chaotic ideas are implemented. So we’re both happy.”

Caviezel’s dream to fly

The woman from St. Gallen seems less than happy when friend Dario talks about his next project. Grisons would like to complete the paragliding certification. «Ladina and I really enjoy walking in the summer. But the descent from a top is just annoying. It would be just great to sail down in a paraglider!” enthuses the two-time World Cup winner.

Jenny, on the other hand, just frowns. “Like I said, Dario is chaotic. I don’t want to know if that is really compatible with paragliding.” For the time being, the attention of the two alpine snowboarders is in any case on the last three World Cup competitions of the season. Then three weeks of vacation in Asia will follow. “And then we’ll see”, grins. Caviezel.
