But the competition is the big goal for trainer Xavi and his team, now even a mandatory task. Barca are still nine points ahead of the royal team after beating Bilbao.

Incidentally, they responded to the corruption scandal of their arch-rival. Real President Florentino Perez and his board of directors met on Sunday — then released a statement. “Real Madrid expresses deep concern about the seriousness of the matter and reiterates its full confidence in the judicial process.” The club had “agreed to appear in the trial to defend its legitimate interests”. So Real would testify if the judge made the case public.
