Why change something if it works? The FCB management team agrees. When asked whether sports director Heiko Vogel would remain interim trainer until the end of the season, chairman David Degen replied to “Blauw” this week: “We’ll see. But breaking the flow is of course not the most sensible thing to do.”
So that should mean what was already emerging: Vogel will keep the dual role until May and then hand it over to Alex Frei’s “correct” successor.
The timing of this process also corresponds to reports from Germany: there, various media outlets are unanimously reporting that SC Freiburg is looking for a new coach for the U23s for next season – the top candidate is Nico Willig of the U19s from VfB Stuttgart.
Why is that relevant from FCB’s point of view? Because the coach who has to leave the Freiburg U23 in the summer is called Thomas Stamm.
