The FCL coach decided on the goalkeepers

Pascal Loretz has proven himself in recent weeks.

A teenager causes a luxury problem at FC Luzern. Pascal Loretz (19) made the injured permanent keeper Marius Müller (29) forget in recent weeks with his performances. But now the German is back. The shoulder injury he sustained in the lost cup match against Thun at the end of January is over.

So who will be in goal against Servette this weekend? “If Müller gives the go, then he plays”, coach Mario Frick clarifies. This removes all doubt. There is no change in the keeper’s hierarchy. Loretz played one of the best goalkeepers in the league in his five league matches.

The future belongs to Loretz

During the match, 20 shots were fired at his chest. He loved everyone. That results in an average of 4 saves per game. No regular Super League goalkeeper reaches that level. Lucerne’s regular goalkeeper Müller scored 3.56 this season. Nevertheless, Loretz was defeated five times – always from the penalty point.

At the FCL, they think highly of Loretz. He is calm, directs the people in front of him and is still good with the ball at his feet. That is what is expected of a modern goalkeeper. But even if he has replaced Müller perfectly and is more than a faint hope for the future, he must continue to grow carefully into a professional. “It’s important for Loretz to play,” says Frick. It doesn’t matter if he is number 2 or 3 in the hierarchy. “The most important thing is that he gets match training. And he will also have that with the U21s in the Promotion League.”

Next season in the Challenge League?

Loretz sees it the same way. He is thankful for the opportunity he was given. But he is aware of his current role. “The most important thing for me is that I play,” the youngster tells Blick. “If that will be in the U21 again later, no problem. It’s nice there too.”

How it looks in the summer is a dream of the future. But there is a plan to loan him to a Challenge League club next season. So that he can gain competition training at a higher level. Should Müller drop out again or even leave the club early in the summer, Central Switzerland now knows who can replace the German: Pascal Loretz van Kriens.
