Viveiro, at the peak of the wave: four champions share five Galician surfing titles

The Viveiro Surfing School celebrated a “spectacular” season at the Galician Surfing Gala held in Porto do Son, on the occasion of the club’s 30th anniversary. The only school in the province of Lugo to compete on the Galician circuit, it faced the “big capitals” and won five regional titles thanks to the talent and work of Claudia Prieto, Lucía Martínez, Gabriela Fernández and Jorge Guerreiro.

Lucia Martinez He even climbed the podium three times. His were titles up to 16 and up to 18 years, while she was second in the category that still suits her age, sub-14. “It was a shame because he narrowly missed us. He had a great season”, pointed out Uxío Rodríguez, a coach who, together with his partner Alejandro Gómez Seoane, shapes some of the strongest promises of Galician surfing.

from his side Claudia Prieto ruled the category under-21 and was third in women’s outdoor. “His role in Bastiagueiro was brutal,” Uxío explained.

The dominance was even stronger Jorge Guerreiro in under 16 years old. “He was spectacular, there was no one to cough on him,” they say in detail about the young man who won four competitions on the circuit in Patos, Pantín, Bastiagueiro and San Román beach in O Vicedo. Second in his category was Samuel Martínez, from Barreiro who competes at the Escuela de Surf Picante de Tapia de Casariego.

Although perhaps the most pleasant surprise for the Viveiro Surfing Family this season was a meteor strike Gabriela Fernandezchampion under-12 in his debut season. “It was the first time she competed in Galicia and she played a great role,” Uxío points out about the athlete who won the Patos test and also showed her face in Bastiagueiro and O Vicedo.

Uxío and Seo showed their pride for the enormous work their students put in: “It’s very nice to have five Galician titles in Viveiro.” In addition, they appreciated the support of families who help them instill in surfers “values ​​in and out of the water” and institutions. Although they also reminded that they are the only club competing in the province of Lugo and need more support from tutoring entities from cities such as Vigo or A Coruña, with the possibility of accessing many more students due to their size. “We are the most humble, we are trying very hard to take the boys to the championship and we could use more help”, they explain.
