In football, the locker room is the most sacred space of any team. Only players, coaches and selected staff members have access. At Werder Bremen, however, this sanctity was apparently abused by one or more people. An unknown perpetrator has gained access to the cabin in the Weserstadion and stolen the team’s cash register.
The story took place in October and has now been published by Werder’s own media portal “Deichstube”. Clemens Fritz, head of professional football at Werder, says in the report that the whole thing has caused some unrest within the team. “We have discussed it at length, called the police and tried to clarify it, so far without success,” he says in an interview. However, there are no suspects in the staff and in the team, this has already been clarified internally: “The bond of trust is intact, the story did not affect the good mood!”
Team treasury is a widespread concept that also occurs in amateur football. These are full of fines for being late or forgetting material.
The standards are of course very different here, according to “SportBild” there was about 20,000 euros in cash in the cloakroom in Bremen.
