Wolff: “Red Bull is driving on another planet”

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff is surprised by the performance of Red Bull (here Verstappen) in the first GP of the season (one-two).

After 57 laps under the spotlight, it’s time to speak clearly. And luckily Mercedes does not use excuses after the horror start (5th Hamilton, 7th Russell). Boss Toto Wolff (51): “That was one of our worst racing days. We miss the pace everywhere.”

Lewis: “Only number 4 left”

Well, Hamilton was measured as fastest on the straight on Sunday at 334.4 km/h. But then: if you don’t get through the corners well.

The Brit, without a win in 25 races: “We have to live with the fact that we are only the fourth fastest team. And at Red Bull we even miss a second. We need to change that quickly, otherwise…”

“New” Mercedes at Imola

For Wolff it is clear: “Red Bull is driving on another planet. It reminds me of our best years when we were a second ahead of the competition per lap. Now we are the hunters and we leave no stone unturned! And no one throws in the towel with us.”

Well shouted. But the “new” Mercedes (B version) will only be available in Imola – but there are still four races left!

Vasseur appalled at the reliability

At Ferrari the most important premiere for Vasseur with the engine bang at Leclerc and Sainz (4th) who was too slow went in his pants. Unlike the times of Alfa-Sauber, Vasseur can now forget the sweet talk: «How can we not be disappointed after such a result. We knew we were going to have a problem with the tyres. But we certainly did not expect concerns about reliability. Of course, the failure also came as a shock to Leclerc. He definitely would have finished third.”

Since there is no engine damage at Ferrari, the battery should now last until the end of the Monegasque race. Vasseur to Sainz: “He drove a solid race.” And now? “We already have a clear picture of the current situation. We know where we need to work even harder. And that’s what we’re going to do!”

Marko is enthusiastic about Aston Martin

Three hours after the 36th victory, winner Max Verstappen left Bahrain in his private jet – a six-hour flight to Nice. Also on board is Red Bull Motorsport director Marko. Grazer to Blick: “After a difficult start to training, we got off to a good start. But there is still room for improvement. We expected from Ferrari and Mercedes that they could hardly be a threat to us here. The bang is this super form from Aston Martin with a Mercedes engine! For me, the duel between Alonso and Hamilton was the highlight of the race!”
