Sejersted is at the center of the Seich race in Aspen

Adrian Smiseth Sejersted put in a very strong performance.

Adrian Smiseth Sejersted will go down in history this World Cup winter as a man for the most unusual moments. After the World Cup Super-G in Cortina, the Norwegian suffered some snide remarks after a TV camera caught him urinating in the starting area.

On the descent into Aspen, the 28-year-old experienced another massive “attack”, although he put in a really strong performance.

Weather change during interruption

Sejersted (best result of the season: 5th in Kitzbühel) conjures up a time in the snow with starting number 1 in the sun, when immediately afterwards World Cup podium drivers such as Niels Hintermann from Zurich or Florian Schieder from South Tyrol break their teeth – both lose over a second. The Austrian Vincent Kriechmayr (two-time world champion 2021) is also 26 hundredths behind the Viking.

But then the race has to be interrupted for about ten minutes because a snowplow is injured. Conditions deteriorate dramatically before the man can be taken away in the rescue sled. First there is a strong headwind, then it starts to snow and the visibility is really bad.

The result: Sejersted’s otherwise excellent team leader Aleksander Aamodt Kilde loses more than one and a half seconds, Marco Odermatt even more than two and a half seconds. “My trip was actually very good,” emphasizes the man from Nidwalden. “But I had such a strong headwind that I just didn’t stand a chance.”

Ruthless analysis by Hintermann

Shortly after the fastest in training Andreas Sander (De) with the number 22 lost more than four seconds, the jury stopped the race. Niels Hintermann, who is currently the best Swiss with fourth place, applauds this decision: “If I had achieved such a good result with this poor performance, it would have been totally undeserved. I drove very badly, especially on the steep slope.”

But what does the tragic hero from Norway say? Sejersted: «I had a perfect run and I really could have used those 100 points. But after starting number 7, the race wasn’t really fair anymore, so I have to live with the decision of the jury.”
