RTL man fights with Ralf Schumacher

Sky expert and ex-Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher has to listen to criticism.

The Formula 1 season hasn’t really started yet – but in Germany the commentators are already bickering!

RTL loses rights after 30 years

The reason for this was a statement by RTL man Heiko Wasser (65) in ‘Sport Bild’: ‘Watching Formula 1 on Sky is like watching a great love having sex with your new one. And then he’s really bad in bed.”

The 65-year-old alludes to the broadcasting dispute between the free TV channel RTL and the pay channel Sky – the former eventually lost the TV rights to the royal class of motorsport after 30 years.

Schumacher responds

But Sky expert and ex-F1 driver Ralf Schumacher (180 GPs, 6 wins) doesn’t let this saying stand alone. The 47-year-old German reacts on social media – he posts a fragment of the interview with Wasser on Instagram and writes: “Dear Heiko, with such comments one can only speak of regrettable! Didn’t know you could improve like that. Just embarrassing.” Schumacher gives it a thumbs down.

Water then tries to explain itself. Compared to “Bild”, he justifies his statement: “That is my personal opinion. I spontaneously expressed my feelings with it. That may have been a bit lighthearted, but those who know me and what Formula 1 means to me may understand that it really hurts do.” However, the two experts could also clarify the Zoff privately. “Ralf has my phone number and can always call me.”

Water: Sky lacks “love”

Wasser would miss the “love” and “wow effects” in the Sky broadcast: “We certainly made mistakes in the past – but with Sky there just were and are a lot.”

“Sport1” wanted to know from the 65-year-old commentator if there was a bit of envy in the saying: “It could well be that there is something involved. I’ve done it for 30 years, there’s a lot of heart and soul in it.” According to his statement, he received a lot of positive feedback after the saying.

Well, on Sunday in Bahrain, the first race of the season (4pm, live in the Blick.ch ticker) goes full steam ahead – on Sky. This also applies to the rest of the season, whether it wants water or not. (tired)
