Jan Scherrer has done it again! The 28-year-old Swiss – eighth in qualifying – was in top form in the halfpipe final and won the bronze medal. Thanks to a strong first run, which was rewarded with 89.25 points, Scherrer finished third.
The 16-year-old Korean Chaeun Lee surprisingly secured the world title. With the third and final run, he jumped to a strong 93.50 points and relegated a 17-year-old to second place with Australian Valentino Guseli by 0.5 points.
Meanwhile, the two Swiss women could not compete for the medals in the top eight final. Berenice Wicki completed none of her three runs quite cleanly and finished eighth, while Isabelle Lötscher could not improve after a solid first run and finished seventh. Gold goes to the Chinese Cai Xuetong. She secured victory thanks to a great first run ahead of Canada’s Elizabeth Hosking and Japan’s Mitsuki Ono. (dti)
