Now it’s about the ball!

Lara Gut-Behrami is only 30 points behind Ragnhild Mowinckel in the Super-G World Cup.

Lara Gut-Behrami (31) has experienced everything in the ski circus for the past 15 years. She was often celebrated, censored and honored in her 376 races – all multiple times. But now the woman from Ticino is experiencing a premiere in the fall of her career – she wants to race until 2025: she will start in World Cup races for the first time in Kvitfjell (No). “It’s cool to see something new,” she says.

Women’s races last took place on the Olympia arenas built by Bernhard Russi 30 years ago in 2003 – Karen Putzer (It) won the Super-G. Now there is a double revival in the same discipline (Friday and Sunday), and there is also a descent on Saturday. Gut-Behrami has no time for sightseeing as she is just 30 points behind the leading Ragnhild Mowinckel (No.) with three races to go in the Super-G World Cup. After 2014, 2016 and 2021, she still has an undisputed chance to win the fourth crystal ball in her chocolate discipline.

“No One Who Doesn’t Like It”

Gut-Behrami doesn’t think about that, as always, she just looks from race to race. It wasn’t until the downhill workouts that she could get a feel for the course. She has not seen the men’s competitions, which have been regular guests at Kvitfjell for decades. “It wouldn’t have helped either, because everything looks flat on TV. When you’re on the mountain, it’s different.” In the end it doesn’t matter where the races take place, “they just have to be good and offer the spectators a spectacle.”

The other Swiss women took a different approach before arriving via Oslo to adapt to the new destination. Michelle Gisin (29) asked her brother Marc, who competed nine times in the Olympia baking. Priska Nufer (31) watched video images, but nothing else (“I’m an instinctive driver”). Joana Hählen (31) analyzed some tracking shots on the computer and Corinne Suter (28) looked forward to the beautiful winter landscape in the far north. “I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like the region,” says Suter.
