Kloten’s hot dog bites

Marc Marchon is a nice, friendly, modest and well-mannered young man. During the photo shoot with a view, for example, he keeps asking photographer Benjamin Soland if he can help carry it. Kloten’s striker is very accommodating and his interest in his fellow man is genuine. You just have to like this guy.

Unless you meet him as an opponent on the ice. Then it’s funny. Then the territory is defended and provoked as if there is no tomorrow. The 27-year-old has built a reputation in the league for being a terrible pain in the neck. That may sound ugly, but it is a great compliment within the industry.

“I’m a different person on the ice”

“I found that this is the best way to play my game. I am a completely different person on the ice,” he says of his playing style. This was missing for the newly promoted team, as Marchon has missed eight games in recent weeks due to injury and the team has slumped in that time. But last weekend was he barely backed when the points for the league were scored against Lausanne (2:3 nP) and the SCL Tigers (3:0).On two of the five goals scored, he had the stick as the scorer or assist in the game. Marchon can not only create more dirt, but also score.

Seen in this light, the former EVZ Junior is Kloten’s hottest dog. That would be the transition to a topic with which he was recently laughable. Marchon revealed to the “Zürcher Unterländer” that he admires competitive eater Joey Chestnut, who can eat 76 hot dogs in 10 minutes, holding the world record.

Hot dogs yes, fruits and vegetables no

Marchon laughs when addressed and explains, somewhat embarrassed, “I allowed myself a joke. We watched these locker room eating contests for entertainment and thought it was funny. That’s how I came up with this idea.”

However, he himself is more comfortable on the road, so he takes almost two minutes to eat a hot dog in view of his hot dog and also makes it clear that Kloten is hungry for more after his stay in the competition: “We all really want to go to the Pre-Playoffs!” Meanwhile, Marchon wouldn’t be suitable as a subject for healthy eating. He doesn’t like salad, vegetables or fruits! “I’ve tried again and again, but it just doesn’t work.”

Passionate darts player and sports manager

Instead, he gets fit for match day games by playing darts. Together with goalkeeper Sandro Zurkirchen there are always hot duels. “Everything is written down and books are kept,” says Marchon, who finds darts ideal for promoting eye work and concentration. And yes, he is usually one step ahead. That is not surprising, since he throws an average of 80 points in good phases.

At 27, Marchon may still be in the prime of his career, but he’s also dealing with life afterward. He will miss another module week in June before completing his further training as a CAS sports manager at the HSG. “It’s exciting for me to find out how many options there are in the sports sector – outside of ice hockey,” he explains his motivation.

The brother joins the team

However, his newly acquired knowledge as a sports manager has nothing to do with the fact that Marc Marchon’s brother Joel (20), who currently plays junior hockey in Canada, will join Kloten next season: “It happened at the initiative of the coaches and the sports directors . But I’m very happy, we’ve always wanted that!”

Marchon is currently looking for an apartment and will soon furnish a shared flat for his brothers. Isn’t that going to be a big challenge because of the age difference? “No, not at all, because we are very close. And sometimes I’m still twenty in my head,” he says with a broad grin.
