Niederreiter begins new NHL adventure with wild brawl

Nino Niederreiter loses his debut in the Winnipeg Jets shirt. De Chur lost to the Los Angeles Kings with Kevin Fiala 5: 6 after a penalty shootout. For the Jets, it looks like a victory for a long time. At the start of the third period, the Canadians lead 5:3. But the kings find their way back into the game. Anze Kopitar and Gabriel Vilardi’s fourth personal goal sent the Californians to overtime before Adrian Kempe’s goal in the penalty shootout turned the game around.

In his 18 minutes of ice time, almost four of which were in the power play, Niederreiter recorded five checks, no finish and four penalty minutes. The striker earned it just before the end of the second period when he checked LA defender Sean Durzi to the head.

This is what Niederreiter and his teammate Adrian Kempe are aiming for. After a wrestling interlude, the two are separated by the referees. The Swiss gets two plus two minutes penalty for this. His opponent Durzi leaves the ice dazed, but can still play the game to the end.

Josi and Suter lose

Of the other Swiss on duty on Wednesday evening, only Philipp Kuraschew can be put on the score list. De Berner, who works for the Chicago Blackhawks, gives Andreas Athanasiou an assist against the Arizona Coyotes shortly before time to make it 4-1. Janis Moser gets the most ice time with the Coyotes with almost 21 minutes, but has no point himself.

While Roman Josi must come off the ice with Nashville against Pittsburgh and Pius Suter with Detroit against Ottawa as losers, Tim Berni can at least celebrate a victory with Columbus against Buffalo. (SDA/mab)
