Just Fontaine, One of the legends of French football and the record holder for the number of goals in one world championship, with 13 goals in Sweden in 1958, died at the age of 89, his family announced on Wednesday.
Fontaine was a great figure Stadium in Reims In the 50s and 60s, with whom he starred in epic duels in the Cup Europe against Real Madrid, first with Raymond Kopa by his side, and then with him in the white team. Both clubs participated in the 1959 European Cup final, with Madrid winning 2–0, a tournament in which Fontaine was top scorer with ten goals.
He scored 30 goals in 21 games for the French national team. His great feat was scoring 13 goals during the 1958 World Cup played in Sweden., an absolute record that has not yet been broken. At that World Cup, France was defeated in the semi-finals and finished third, defeated by Brazil from the first Pele who took the title.

He scored 164 goals in 200 games in the league. But two almost consecutive fractures of his left leg (double in 1960 and single in 1961) forced him to retire in 1962 at the age of just 29.
Fontaine received a Golden boot honoring his record during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, at a ceremony where he was “proud” to receive the award Ronaldo Nazario and Michel Platini.
