For the stars of Bayern Munich, future breaches of the rules could cost dearly. After many years, the German record champions are once again introducing a catalog of penalties. This should allow the players to focus more on football again.
As “Bild” has learned, Bayern team manager Kathleen Krüger is behind the introduction. The former Bayern player developed the catalog together with team psychologist Max Pelka. The measure received much support from coach Julian Nagelsmann and sports director Hasan Salihamidzic.
The list was presented to the team following their Champions League first leg victory over PSG. It should not be a direct response to the antics of Leroy Sané and Serge Gnabry. The two German strikers have made headlines in recent weeks with delays and short drives.
The goal is to get the players excited for the last sprint of the season. The team from Munich is fighting for the title in all three competitions. The amount of the fines must be between 1000 and 3000 euros.
Punctuality is an important point. Players arriving late at the meeting point will be charged and must arrange their own travel. This seems to have reached almost all players. Only Sané was late for departure to Gladbach and had to follow the team bus.
It remains to be seen whether the 27-year-old will stick to the catalog going forward. Financially, the fine will hardly affect him – with an annual salary of about 20 million euros. In comparison, with the Swiss average salary of about 80,000 francs per year, the maximum fine would be 12 francs.
Coach Nagelsmann’s suspension of the substitution bench should have been more regrettable. Sané was only substituted in the second half. (mab)
