After almost 16 years, an era that has shaped the NHL is coming to an end: Patrick Kane leaves the Chicago Blackhawks and Swiss Philipp Kurashev (23).
The attacker was traded to the New York Rangers on Wednesday evening, where he meets ex-striker partner Artemi Panarin. The 34-year-old played 1,161 games for the Illinois state franchise and accumulated 1,225 scorer points. The vice captain was also instrumental in enabling the Blackhawks to win the Stanley Cup in 2010, 2013 and 2015.
“I am so thankful for everything the city, the organization, my teammates and the fans have done for me and my family over the past 16 years,” said the future Hall of Famer.
It’s a very emotional time, but this decision “puts me in the right position to win another Stanley Cup.” When the Blackhawks, who are in danger of missing the playoffs for the third time in a row, play against the Arizona Coyotes (1:4), the MVP of the 2015/16 season will no longer be on the ice.
