The message for the home game against GC on Sunday is clear. “Ech, ech, ech, the FCL is interested in dech ke Strech”, reads one of the many banners. Or: “The whole stadium is for the FCL – which would not be an individual script”. The anger of the fans is directed against Bernhard Alpstaeg (77), the longtime FCL investor and stadium owner. So is that of the FCL fan block. “Hasch scho so de Zetteri, that I take chasch endorse?”
What the fans are alluding to: The club must apply for the license for the new season from the league next Thursday, but Alpstaeg has so far refused to sign, without which the FCL will not be able to play at the Swissporarena next season. And on Friday, the multimillionaire ended the cooperation between the Schützenhaus economy and the FCL, supposedly for financial reasons. It’s the last chapter in this dope comedy.
The main players on the field are not caught by the ongoing quarrels. “We’ve gotten used to it. In the dressing room that’s not an issue,” says defender Denis Simani. And coach Mario Frick adds: “We focus on our performance.”

Besides Leader YB and Master Zurich, FCL is the only team that is still undefeated in the competition this year. “Sometimes dirty wins also help,” says Frick — knowing his team played unconvincingly against GC once. “But football is fair.” In the four draws this year, the FCL was closer to victory, having been unlucky with two controversial VAR decisions against St. Gallen a week ago.

Thanks to the win over GC, it’s clear: the FCL is aimed at the top of the table. The gap to Servette and second place is only four points. “We are in full swing, you have to take us into account,” says Frick, who hopes the victory against the standings and the advance to fourth place will give the team a boost. “We knew that if we lose we’ll be in the pie fighting at full back – although we don’t belong there.”
Frick has every reason to be optimistic. The FCL does not have to hide from any team. The weak goal total of the strikers, the poor home record or the loss of permanent keeper Marius Müller: it is all no problem. The team almost always finds a solution. The hands of Frick and Co. are bound only in the quarrel over property. “We know what’s going on,” said the Liechtensteiner. “But we also know that everything will be fine.”
