Murisier criticizes giant slalom courses

Justin Murisier gives his opinion.

Justin Murisier (31) was only 18th on Saturday in the giant slalom in Palisades Tahoe (USA), a ranking that he is not satisfied with.

After the race he reports on social media. “Not my best skiing,” he says of his appearance. “Still, I’m glad I made it to the finish line.” At the same time, he praises the organizers. After more than a meter of fresh snow in the days leading up to the race, they had to do everything they could to avoid a cancellation. Murisier takes off his hat, “that they have performed a miracle with the incline!”

After the praise, however, comes harsh criticism from Wallis. Not to the organizers, but to those who were allowed to do giant slalom this winter. «I am the first to accept varied, winding, fast and slow routes. It just has to harmonize with the terrain,” he says. Unfortunately, too many attempts have been made lately to create benefits for their own athletes. People forget that “we have to sell our sport with beautiful images on television”.

Wrestling the world’s best makes him sad

Murisier is especially upset about what he saw at Lake Tahoe during the decision-making process. “When I watched the second run and saw the world’s best athletes struggle to spin their skis, I was sad.” Specifically, he means Marco Odermatt (25). The season dominator and world champion showed a lot of effort in the second run, which was set by Jörg Roten, the Swiss trainer employed by the Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersen. Only thanks to a strong finish did he miss the victory by an instant. “I don’t think our sport should be like this…” concludes Murisier.

In the comments, his fans thank him for the open words. Other skiers do not comment. But Marco Odermatt shares the statement in his Instagram story. With a “thumbs up” he indicates that he might see things the way his teammate does. (bir)
