In the development of the C43, Alfa-Sauber was able to afford a luxury that few in the field could afford: as the predecessor was the only car of the 2022 generation that did not have weight problems, it was not necessary to build a new to build monocoque. .

This is where the engineers usually save the most weight. Sauber took over the old chassis and front suspension at the same time for cost reasons – maybe they want to lend a hand here in 2024.

The acquisition also had to bring with it the unique concept of the roll bar, although the rules have changed here. Sauber strengthened the structure there after the Zhou crash at Silverstone – and now even voluntarily meets the requirements for 2024!

The aerodynamic concept is inspired by Red Bull. The Mercedes concept could quickly be classified as uninteresting. As early as 2022, Sauber wanted to build towards Red Bull during the season. However, this only worked to a limited extent because the coolers were in the way. The coolers are now arranged in such a way that the air can flow down through the side cabinets in the direction of the diffuser.

Better build yourself than buy from Ferrari

Most of the work was in the rear axle, also for aerodynamic reasons. For this, the gearbox housing, which you have been building yourself since 2022, had to be redesigned. You used to buy the gearbox housing at Ferrari. People prefer to build it themselves for cost reasons, the regulations prescribe a fixed price for purchased parts, Hinwil knows how to do it cheaper. You have technical freedom for this. This was already used in 2022 with the change to compression struts. The concept (Red Bull drives like this) will be retained, but the wishbones will be completely reinstalled. Here, too, they were inspired by Red Bull.
