“That wasn’t right with her”

During training in Crans-Montana, Lara Gut-Behrami missed a goal before the finish.

Michelle Gisin had a World Cup to forget. She was way behind and never had a chance for a medal. The low point was 35th place after the first slalom run. Although she should have started, she decided not to. “I thought for a long time, after all, something like that goes against my nature. I’ve never given up a race in my career when I was physically fit. But it all went wrong in Méribel, I lost my stick in the first run, was on the ground and didn’t have the strength it needed. There was no point,” said the 29-year-old.

After the first downhill training in Crans-Montana USA, Gisin emphasized that she immediately apologized to her teammate Elena Stoffel. “After all, she would have loved to race this slalom, but was not nominated. What I did to her was not right. I texted her and explained my situation. She immediately accepted the apology.”

Gut-Behrami fast, Goggia crashes

And the update? After the cancellation of Thursday training, the organizers in Crans-Montana struggled to get through Friday training despite the very high temperatures. This is necessary to leave on Saturday. “Now we all hope that temperatures will drop below freezing at night. I am confident that we will have great races,” said OC President Marius Robyr.

Lara Gut-Behrami shows on Mont Lachaux that she is a force to be reckoned with. She finished second behind the outstanding Ilka Stuhec (Slo) on a course that was slightly different from previous years. The Ticino misses a goal shortly before time. With Joana Hählen (eighth), Priska Nufer (ninth) and Corinne Suter (tenth), three more Swiss women make it to the top 10, Michelle Gisin is 15th and Downhill World Champion Jasmine Flury 21st.

Meanwhile, Sofia Goggia falls – as so often in recent winters. The Italian slid into a left turn after 20 seconds of driving and was unable to avoid impacting the nets – although she was apparently unharmed. With three runs to go, Goggia leads the World Cup discipline, 108 points ahead of Stuhec.
