Willem II drew three points from the fire at Jong Ajax: 1-2. For a long time, the team from Tilburg hardly created any chances, but in the end Jeremy Bokila turned out to be a golden change and Lucas Woudenberg a controlled finish.
Willem II is now one of the best teams of the second half. The club now has seven points from three games, as many as De Graafschap and MVV.
In a first half with few chances, Jong Ajax’s field game was slightly better than that of Tilburg. This led to the lead after 21 minutes. After a good attack on the left side of the field, Kristian Hlynsson put the ball wide for Sontje Hansen. He controlled the ball past Kostas Lamprou from outside the box. Willem II’s defenders thought that Hansen touched the ball with his hand, but that was not visible to referee Martijn Vos.
Kevin Hofland intervened after 28 minutes. He traded his forward Jizz Hornkamp for Jeremy Bokila. Hornkamp angrily strode into the catacombs: he obviously did not agree with his relief.
Shortly after the break, Kevin Hofland was correct and Bokila signed to make it 1-1. The very strong Bokila ran over with his physical Mateja Milovanovic and was then only able to attack goalkeeper Tom de Graaff. The striker controlled the ball past the 17-year-old goalkeeper.
After that, the game became more and more fun with chances for both teams. Bokila headed just over and Sontje Hansen also had a chance for Ajax to score his second goal.
A goal was scored a quarter of an hour before the end. Lucas Woudenberg was sent deep by Max Svensson and controlled the ball over the keeper. The relief was great at the defender.
Young Ajax launched a late attack after Woudenberg’s goal, but Johnny Heitinga’s side lacked the strength to go through and had to settle for defeat. Coach Kevin Hofland saw Jeremy Bokila injured just before the end. He may therefore have to fall back on Jizz Hornkamp in the next game.
After this win, Willem II is fifth in the Kitchen Champion Division, six points behind leader Heracles Almelo, who is the opponent in the next round.
