Antoinette Rijpma-De Jong has won the 1,500 meters at the qualifying tournament for the World Cup in Heerenveen. Rijpma-De Jong clocked a time of 1:54.71, 0.8 faster than number two, Marijke Groenewoud.
Jutta Leerdam appeared to be on course for the fastest time in the final stage against Melissa Wijfje, but the Jumbo Visma skater scored in the final lap. Her time of 1:56:52 was still good for third place and a starting ticket for the first four World Cup competitions.
These starting tickets were reserved for the fastest five over 1,500 meters. Joy Beune (fourth in 1:17:10) and Reina Anema (fifth in 1:57:63) also deserved such a ticket.
For Irene Schouten there was no starting ticket over 1,500 meters. She finished eighth with a time of 1:58:00.
“It was super bad,” replied the three-time Olympic champion, whose 1,500 meters is not the strongest distance. Last season she placed at this distance.
Check out this weekend’s ice skating program, all of which can be followed live on NOS.
The first four World Cup competitions will be held in Stavanger and Heerenveen (in November) and twice in Calgary (in December). The fifth World Cup and the World Cup final will take place in Poland in February.
The starting cards for the European Championships All-Around and Sprint in Hamar, beginning of January, will be handed out in the NK at the end of December. The participants in the World Championship distances in early March in Heerenveen will be announced after the National Championship distances in early February.
