Bayern probably lost its last chance to become champions in the 2-0 defeat against Dortmund. Coach Thomas Tuchel also sees it this way and has already congratulated Leverkusen on the title. No wonder the Munich coach himself finds himself in the crossfire of criticism after his fifth defeat of the season. Above all, ‘chief critic’ Didi Hamann is at it again. The Sky expert is very clear about the coach.
“The Bayern management must ask itself whether it will be the last sprint of the competition and the Champions League with Thomas Tuchel in the coming weeks,” Hamann said in the TV program Sky90. How he himself would answer this question is perfectly clear. “There are many trainers on the market. I think of a Mourinho. You can think whatever you want about him, but at Chelsea the players loved him. From a professional point of view he is an excellent man.”
Hamann continues: “I can imagine that he himself says that he does it for eight to ten weeks. If all goes well, you can continue for another year. Two-, three- or five-year contracts haven’t worked lately.” The match against Dortmund was “a revelation” for him, the former DFB and Bayern star said.
Throughout Thomas Tuchel’s tenure in Munich, it became clear time and time again that Hamann was not a big fan of him. The criticism started shortly after he took over and ran like a common thread through the season.
It remains to be seen whether Tuchel will live to see the end of the season at Bayern – sports director Max Eberl (50) recently supported the coach. But after the weak performance against Dortmund, it cannot be ruled out that the Bayern management will switch to the Hamann line with a view to the extremely important Champions League quarter-final against Arsenal (9 and 17 April). A first titleless season since 2011/12 is looming.
