When was that last? FC Bayern Munich declared that the championship race was decided after matchday 27 – seven games before the end.

In March 1992 (!), the Munich team was last in the Bundesliga without a realistic chance of winning the title – at that time they were in 11th place in the table.

Saturday is a turning point in this year’s championship race: Leverkusen has to tremble for a long time in the afternoon, but – again this season – forces a turnaround extremely late (2-1 win against Hoffenheim). Such victories were once the great quality of “Dusel-Bayern”. But this season the German record champions are missing that final push. The same thing happened later on Saturday evening.

Bayern lost 2-0 to Dortmund. It is the fifth defeat of the season – the camp of the German record champions is well served.

Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel (50) is surprisingly clear: “Congratulations to Leverkusen.” On Holy Saturday, the 50-year-old apparently no longer believes in the resurrection of the current master. ‘No more hope, no. “We don’t have to say anything after the match,” Tuchel explained to Sky.

Leverkusen’s win didn’t help

Naturally, Leverkusen’s last-minute win on the afternoon before the match was noticed in preparation for the match against Dortmund. “That certainly didn’t help us. “For a long time we thought we could overtake Leverkusen,” said Tuchel.

Joshua Kimmich (29) is really angry after the bankruptcy of the BVB. “I wonder how we can have such an attitude. “It’s completely frustrating and completely inexplicable to me,” he complained to Sky after the final whistle. And further: “Against BVB you don’t need anyone on the sidelines or teammates to motivate you. You have to burn it yourself, actually the day before.”

Thomas Müller (34) sees it the same way. “If you watch the game and think to yourself: ‘Leverkusen are finally leaving something behind’, then that’s a bit of a setback. “But it’s not really an excuse for what happened,” said the Munich native, deeply disappointed after the defeat.

Decision already at the end of April?

When it comes to mastery, Müller is not yet ready to admit defeat – at least publicly: “I am not a mathematics professor, but I know it is still possible. But if we’re honest, it’s not very realistic.”
