Ferrari fans can dream again in 2024. About the first World Cup title since 2007 (Kimi Räikkönen) and the red team (2008).
Ferrari took advantage of the first retirement of series winner Max Verstappen (26) after a 43-point race in Melbourne to take their 86th double victory and their 244th win in 1077 races. And so the team from Maranello has already won at least once in its 59th season. And if the statistics don’t break after nine series, Ferrari will finally become world champion again in 2024!
Because after a double victory in Australia, the team in question took the driver and team crowns: 1988 McLaren, 1996 Williams, 1998 McLaren, 2000 Ferrari, 2004 Ferrari, 2009 Brawn, 2015 Mercedes, 2016 Mercedes, 2019 Mercedes. Scary.
Mercedes’ false start, on the other hand, is somehow self-inflicted. George Russell (26) and Sir Lewis Hamilton (39) have apparently lost confidence in the car and therefore in its development. And the seven-time world champion has lost the last five training matches. The 71 points deficit to leader Red Bull-Honda after three races says it all.

And a week ago the final in Melbourne proved fatal again: he left without coming into contact with the enemy. Even if Fernando Alonso was punished for it – and of course he was angry. The Spaniard, like his compatriot Sainz, is now on several wish lists for 2025.
The transfer crisis in Formula 1 continues. And if Alonso goes to Aston Martin-Mercedes, billionaire Lawrence Stroll (64) wants to buy even more with his Formula 1 wallet.
The new menu now includes Verstappen and British bull aerodynamics guru Adrian Newey (65, over 200 GP victories, previously McLaren and Williams). But this is also being hunted by Ferrari. There should easily be a double-digit million sum on the table. Whether Newey actually leaves the nest he made in Milton Keynes probably also depends on the outcome of the “Horner case”.
Formula 1 will compete for the 34th time at the end of next week in Suzuka, Japan: race this Sunday at 7:00 am CET (TV live). The record winner with six victories is probably Schumacher, ahead of Hamilton (5). A clear victory for Verstappen in 2023 ahead of the McLaren duo Norris and Piastri.
Norris achieved his 14th podium finish in Australia without a win. This puts him alone at the top – ahead of Heidfeld (13). For Alfa-Sauber, Japan was not worth a trip: the 13th Zhou – Bottas was eliminated. The 2019 winner collided with Albon.
