Experts predict Super League draw: Winti wins, Lucerne, St. Gallen and Zurich have to tremble

The experts all agree: Winterthur is celebrating on matchday 33.

Five more rounds until the deadline: After matchday 33, the Super League is divided into championship and relegation rounds (six teams each). Realistically, there are still five teams competing for four places in the Championship Group, which leaders YB and Servette have already achieved on equal points. But who ultimately bites the bullet? Five experts give their prediction.

Kubilay Türkyilmaz (57), Blick expert and former player

“We don’t need to talk about YB, Servette and Lugano. They decide on the title among themselves. Not even about the FCZ, they have too much class. A hot race follows between the remaining three teams, with Winterthur on top. They are in the best shape and can do it safely. That leaves St. Gall and Lucerne. Ultimately, the residents of eastern Switzerland are left in the dark. They are in a negative spiral. Their attacking football has become vulnerable and their overall concept is vulnerable. Because they are not positioned properly at the back. The ultimate line battle will take place on Monday. If the FCL wins – Mario Frick always scores points when he has to – the Central Swiss team has overtaken the Espen. And a round later they have a three-point lead when they host Yverdon and St. Gallen face YB loser Lausanne. This is the beginning of the end for Peter Zeidler’s team.”

Markus Babbel (51), Blick expert, former coach and player

‘I think everything will remain as it is. Winterthur remains in sixth place, which would be a huge surprise and something no one expected before the season. But they do an excellent job. Unfortunately my FC Luzern cannot handle it, they are not consistent enough. That is the big problem that unfortunately they cannot solve. I wish and wish they would get it. As we all know, hope dies last.”

Roger Wehrli (68), former coach and player

‘Zurich is ready. Unless they continue to rely solely on the young, things could get tight for them too. But the FCZ should actually get it done. Whether it will ultimately be a three-way battle or a one-on-one battle depends on the match between St. Gallen and Lucerne. If the Aspens win, they’ve made it. But Lucerne would still remain in the race. But then you would have to win all remaining home games against Lausanne, Yverdon and Basel to have a chance of reaching the Champions Group. Because Winterthur continues to score points. But they have a much tougher schedule at home than the FCL. Therefore, the goal difference between my two former clubs could even be decisive in the end, with the team from Lucerne coming out worse.

Rolf Fringer (67), TV expert and former coach and player

«I don’t see a battle between four parties, but a battle between three parties: with five points in seventh place, FC Zurich is, by human standards, safe in the championship round. Everything is open between St. Gallen, Winterthur and Lucerne. Because I don’t play the lottery, I don’t dare make predictions.”

Timm Klose (35), TV expert and former player

“For me, only Zurich, St. Gall, Winterthur and Lucerne are included in the draw. St. Gallen is in bad form, but I think the team is too stable. The Winterthur team will also survive thanks to their great run. In contrast, the trend of the FCZ points downwards. And Lucerne has quality, but a coach who occasionally puts unnecessary pressure on the young team with his statements. It will be a decision between Lucerne and the FCZ. I suspect that the people of Zurich will ultimately narrowly miss the top six.”
