For the first time in eight months, Breel Embolo (27) is back in the AS Monaco selection. The Nati striker tore his cruciate ligament during training last August and has since had to take a break. Now Embolo could be back in action on Saturday in Ligue 1 against Metz.
Embolo’s return is also positive news for the national team, with the striker likely to be fit again in time for European Championship preparations. There are still twelve matches to be played in Ligue 1 before the tournament takes place in Germany. This gives Embolo enough time to warm up for the European Championship.
“In the last seven games in the championship it’s about getting a good feeling and scoring a few goals if possible. “That’s in my head,” the Cameroon-born Basel resident told the Keystone-SDA news agency this week.
The fact that the national team urgently needs Embolo was evident from the last practice matches against Denmark (0-0) and Ireland (1-0). (mbi)
