Will there be another million transfer?: There are three jewels behind the mega run in Winterthur

FC Winterthur is fun! Here the Winti players cheer against Yverdon.

Actually, the mobile phone of FCW sports director Oliver Kaiser (44) should be ringing now. Because Winterthur’s jewelry forge is very hot at the moment. The surprise team has lost only one of its last thirteen games. And with Matteo Di Giusto (23), Nishan Burkart (24) and Adrian Gantenbein (22), three young players are making a big impression this season.

Above all, playmaker Di Giusto, the heart of the Winterthur offensive. The statistics portal Wyscout, which compares a wide variety of data, even ranks Di Giusto first among all attacking midfielders in the league. The player from Zurich has already scored six goals this season and prepared three more.

Gantenbein would become top scorer in Basel

Teammate Burkart is even more successful this season with eight goals. The lightning-fast attacker has played a major role in the Winterthur high-rise in recent weeks. In nine games this year alone, the former Man United junior has scored six times. Highlight: his brace in the cup quarter-final against FCZ.

And then there’s Adrian Gantenbein. With seven assists, the right back is the second best assist giver in the Super League, after Lugano’s Renato Steffen (9). In addition, the homegrown team from Winterthur has already scored twice. For comparison: with these figures the defender would be top scorer at FCB, GC or Luzern.

The next million dollar transfer is just around the corner

If the young Winterthur players are so convincing in the final stages of the season, it is unlikely that all three will play at the Schützenwiese next season. The transfer of Samuel Ballet (23), who moved to Como this winter for a record amount of 1.8 million francs, shows that foreign clubs are now also turning to FC Winterthur.

If his phone actually starts ringing more often in the coming weeks, Kaiser will get to work on it. “That would also be a compliment for our work and shows that the player in question has been able to develop positively with us,” said the sports director. He is not afraid that his team will fall apart in the summer. “It is part of the business that all Swiss clubs have to give up their best players again and again,” says Kaiser.

“Can’t keep up with FCB”

In addition, sporting success also brings advantages. “The market has also opened up for us. As an employer, we have become even more attractive to new players,” explains the FCW sports director. “Even though there is no way we can keep up financially with the other clubs in the Super League.”

If you look at the table, the Winterthur team can do this, at least in a sporting way, thanks to their jewelers.
