The entire ski circus was looking forward to the final bouquet in the men’s descent last Sunday: Marco Odermatt (27) against Cyprien Sarrazin (29). But it was not lit, the weather, or rather the wind, spoiled the match in Saalbach-Hinterglemm (Austria) – and made the Swiss the winner of the ball for the first time in the most important discipline.

Odermatt clearly didn’t like that they couldn’t battle it out on the slopes, as the Frenchman revealed to Eurosport: “He told me he wasn’t feeling well and he was sorry it ended the same way.” The three-time season winner explained that the Nidwalden resident’s statement was “honestly meant” and that he himself could accept the end of the season: “That’s part of the sport.”

Parallel travel as a spontaneous action

So instead of thundering down the track in single file, the two speedsters decided on a special farewell ride and rode down the slope together. How did this come about? “I said to him: ‘Come on, let’s do a parallel ride’ to thank the crowd,” Sarrazin explains.

They had spent the entire morning together in the team hospitality and had a long conversation. “We talked about all kinds of things, like where he went on vacation.” You can tell that the two have a very good relationship apart from their sporting rivalry. Sarrazin makes no secret of that: “It shows that we have this connection and the same values ​​that we are trying to convey.”

Odermatt: “He’s a cool sick person”

The two spent a lot of time together in Kitzbühel, where the 29-year-old won both descents. So they partied topless and let loose, as the owner of pub “The Londoner” told Blick.

Odermatt said at the time that he went partying with Sarrazin for the first time last summer in Chile, and also in Wengen, a week before the Kitzbühel races. “He’s a really cool sick guy,” said the four-time ball winner.

So we can look forward to more duels between the two ski stars – and perhaps a party story or two.
