Once again there is a fuss about Breel Embolo (27)! Less than a year after the Nati forward was fined for multiple threats, the Monaco professional could face legal trouble again.
Embolo’s name appears in an indictment against a Basel Hells Angels member who allegedly sold fake Covid certificates. The suspect allegedly sent fake Covid travel tickets to Embolo via WhatsApp twice in February 2021, the indictment states.
However, Embolo does not have to fear legal consequences yet. No charges have yet been filed against the national player. The presumption of innocence applies regardless. Even if the accused Hells Angels member were found guilty, it does not mean the footballer is guilty.
Embolo would only have to fear consequences if the Public Prosecution Service were to start proceedings against him. But nothing is known about this at the moment. In any case, Embolo could only be prosecuted if he ordered the forgery or knowingly used the forged certificate to his advantage. However, according to current knowledge, no information is available about this.
Last June, the footballer was sentenced by the criminal court to a suspended fine of 45 daily rates of 3,000 francs for multiple threats. It was about an incident that took place in 2018 in the Steinenvorstadt in Basel.
