People are inclined to call him “Master Eder”. And Andreas Eder (28) even became champion three times in his home country Germany with Red Bull Munich. And if EV Zug has his way, the huge striker should also win championship titles in Switzerland.

This requires twelve wins in the play-offs. The first arrived in Bern on Tuesday. And it was Eder who pulled the plug on SCB with his 2-1 win. He caught goalkeeper Adam Reideborn from a tight angle after an assist from Sven Leuenberger. A minute later, EVZ hit a double and easily won 4-1.

In fact, Eder could and should have become the match winner two days in advance. First he initiated Marc Michaelis’ goal to make it 1-1 with a check on Romain Loeffel behind the goal, allowing the momentum to swing to Zug’s side. But with the score of 3:2 he missed the chance to secure the victory when he missed the target in front of the open goal.

It happened as it had to happen: SCB then managed to make a major turnaround and Eder became the match loser instead of the winner.

With Eder, Zug initially lost 10 of 11 games

The EVZ only hired the seventeen-time German international from Munich at the end of January, where he had had a falling out with coach Toni Söderholm (ex-SCB), as a replacement for the injured Riley Sheen.

Bitter for Eder: he won only one of his first eleven games with the EVZ, as the Zug team fell into a slump at the end of qualifying shortly after his arrival. Eder was less notable for his two goals than for the fact that he beat Bastian Guggenheim badly during the 3-0 defeat in Langnau and then mocked him with a sleeping gesture. But on Tuesday, Eder was finally able to portray himself in a positive light.
