Start well, much slower: FCZ reveals its problem areas in an embarrassing draw

What a trauma! After the 2:3 a week ago in Yverdon, the FCZ also did not win against Stade-Lausanne-Ouchy. After a 2-0 lead, the score is 2-2. The manner of the draw is particularly bitter, as FC Zurich is overwhelmingly superior at the start of the match and should decide the match early with several goals.

Striking: the team of the coaching duo Ural/Romano has repeatedly made the same mistakes recently. At the beginning of the second half of the season there were several matches in which FCZ played one half well and the other very weakly. While this issue has been largely resolved, another issue has now come to light.

Gift after gift

Just like at the beginning of the second half of the season, there also seem to be less playful elements. It is more of a mental problem. Against Yverdon (after the 2-2 equalizer) they seemed to have a stranglehold on the opponent and were closer to victory. But a lack of concentration meant that the Romans scored 3-2 and FCZ lost.

It’s not too bad against SLO because FCZ at least gets a point, but something similar happens as in Yverdon. Once again the FCZ (apparently) had everything under control, but after the Ajdini shock (a goal out of nowhere shortly before half-time) the momentum was again snatched away in a completely unpredictable manner.

“We completely dominated them at first and probably thought the game was over after 2-0. If – as in Yverdon – you hand out presents again (penalty kick, editor’s note), you bring the opponent back into the game,” says goalkeeper Yanick Brecher (30) angrily. Antonio Marchesano was a little harsher towards the team during half-time: “We played too arrogantly.”

A good start is followed by a dip

It is also striking that the team from Zurich got into the match well to very well in the early minutes and overwhelmed the opponents with their strength in the beginning. But as time goes by, more and more is broken down. This has to do with the fact that the new game system (high pressure) is more running intensive than under former coach Bo Henriksen. Brecher says: “We should not overestimate that. We’re only a few weeks in and we’re on the right track.”

Despite a point win against Ouchy, which feels like a defeat, Brecher and Co. Start the new week with a positive feeling. Reason: Because rival Lucerne awarded three points on its own field against Servette, FCZ still has a comfortable lead (five points) in seventh place despite all the problems.
