Just months after caesarean section: track and field athlete makes comeback and aims for Olympic qualification

Norwegian athlete Amalie Iuel (29) has had an exciting year. On September 1, she and her partner, former skier Aksel Lund Svindal (41), became parents to their son Storm. The two have been a couple since 2020.

A few weeks after the birth, Svindal asked his girlfriend the question of all questions. And Iuel was overjoyed when he accepted the marriage proposal. Since then, the two have been enjoying their happiness and enjoying life as a small family. But that will be over soon. Because Iuel has an ambitious goal.

Return in April

The athlete would like to qualify in the 400m hurdles for the European Championships in Rome (It, June 7 to 12) and the Olympic Games in Paris (Friday, July 26 to August 11). She trains diligently for this dream. Iuel will make her comeback on April 20 during the Kip Keino Classic meeting in Nairobi (Ken), the Norwegian Athletics Association announced. She played her last match on August 22, 2022.

About seven and a half months after the birth of her son, Iuel is now looking to relaunch her career. And this despite the fact that Storm was born via caesarean section and she had to wait longer than planned before she could start training again. Iuel also struggled with pelvic pain and a hernia during pregnancy.

Olympics as a huge bonus

Still, she wants to return to the tartan runway. Even if it’s realistic. “Everything has to work out if I want to reach the Olympic Games,” Iuel told the Norwegian newspaper “Verdens Gang” in February.

She tries to convince herself that there will be championships after this. Because: “The Olympic Games ten months after birth would be a huge bonus. I won’t see it as a defeat if it doesn’t work out.” (beer)
