The Devils secured the victory with an intermediate spurt at the start of the middle third as they went from 2:2 to 5:2 in just under four minutes. The origin of this run was a pass from captain Nico Hischier, which Dawson Mercier converted in spectacular fashion to make it 3-2. Shortly afterwards, Timo Meier increased the score to 4:2 with his 19th goal of the season. The Appenzell striker was later credited with an assist in the 6:2 (55th minute). He was named the third best player in the game.
