Dutch cricketers don’t stand a chance against superpower India

The Dutch cricketers also lost the second game in the second group stage at the World Twenty20 in Australia. After losing to Bangladesh, India were one size too big even at the packed Sydney cricket stadium. The countries have never met in a 20-over game before.

India won the draw, opting to bat and getting off to a cautious start. It lost only the wickets of Kl Rahul and Rohit Sharma and picked up the pace. Virat Kohli (62 nos) and Suryakumar Yadav (51 nos from 25 balls) increased the score to 179 runs.

That goal was too ambitious for the Orange batsmen. Max O’Dowd flew off the starting blocks but was killed after ten balls. Tim Pringle and Shariz Azmaz were also reasonably efficient, but otherwise it was mostly rereading: 123/9.

‘Great experience’

“It was definitely the loudest crowd I’ve ever played in front of. It was a great experience,” said Orange captain Scott Edwards. “It’s always hard to beat a 180 score. I thought we bowled quite well but given their clubs and the fact that we’re not getting wickets it’s hard to keep up.”

India tops the group with their second win in the second group stage of the World Cup. The orange will later compete with top country Pakistan.
