A year ago, speed specialist Tamara Tippler (32) ended her season prematurely. The reason couldn’t have been nicer: she was pregnant. Six months later, Mia was born.
The Austrian never thought about resigning. Now she returns to the World Cup track. Six months after the birth of her daughter, Tippler will start as a forerunner in the World Cup finals in Saalbach (Austria).
“That was always my goal,” she says in the podcast “What’s behind it” by skiers Cornelia Hütter (31) and Nicole Schmidhofer (34), who resigned a year ago. But she knew from the start it would be a challenge. “You can’t jump out of the hospital and go straight to the leg press. Pregnancy changes the entire body,” says Tippler.
She started training again two months after birth. She now has six days of snow training. You need a certain level to ride on a World Cup track and that is why she took an ambitious approach.
She also completed a super-G unit with the men. Tippler admits she was a little nervous. Mainly because her biggest thing was always what she would think in the beginning. “In the end it was the same as always,” she says. «My mind was completely focused on it. And then I sat in the car and thought: what is Mia doing now?”
Her involvement as an ancestor will also determine whether or not she will return. It is still unclear when it will fall. Because she needs to be able to answer an important question: can I handle being away from Mia for four weeks or not? “No one can make this decision for me,” Tippler said. But if she decides to make a comeback, she will continue with it. (beer)
