The flares, which are difficult to extinguish, reach temperatures of more than 2,000 degrees Celsius when burned and can cause serious burns. However, no serious injuries were reported in the incident.

The public prosecutor’s office is demanding a prison sentence of 22 months and a fine of 300 francs against the alleged torch thrower. The prison sentence should be conditional with a probation period of two years.

Police were able to identify a total of 18 people believed to have been involved in the storming of the square, Zurich city police announced about a year after the incident.
