Luke Littler (17) is the shooting star in darts. On Sunday, the young Englishman surpassed everyone again and won the Belgian Open with an 8:7 final victory against former world champion Rob Cross (33) – including 9 darts players. But not everyone likes the way the teenager behaves on stage. German Ricardo Pietreczko (29), nicknamed ‘Pikachu’, accused him of arrogance after the semi-final defeat in Belgium.

Need for notification during handshake

During the post-match handshake, the world number 34 spoke urgently to Littler and then immediately ran away. Luke “the Nuke” Littler, in turn, was surprised, looking quizzically into the crowd before throwing an elbow behind his opponent’s back and then cheering with a loud roar towards the crowd. But what actually caused “Pikachu”’s displeasure?

Aftermath on social media

The currently third best German darts professional was affected by Littler’s so-called check-out routes (see text box line). However, the German did not provide precise information about what specifically bothered him. The darts prodigy repeatedly chose unusual point combinations during the game to win his legs. Pietreczko felt mocked by this. “I really appreciated that he could play like that at such an age. But I hope the arrogance punishes him,” he sharply criticized the reigning vice world champion on Instagram. He has since deleted the post.

Littler initially spoke out in a Facebook group, as various English media reported: “I have no idea what I did wrong, no idea what he said. He said something and ‘don’t do it again.'” He later repeated this to Sky, explaining that his choice of pitch was solely related to his preferences for individual pitches.
